Dancehall artist Sean Paul, from Jamaica, has shared details about how he and American pop superstar Beyoncé came to work together.
On the song “Baby Boy” from her 2003 album “Dangerous Love,” Beyoncé collaborated with Sean Paul.
Paul mentioned in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Beyoncé took a risk by working with him on the dancehall song.

He claimed that the song made history for him and Beyoncé and cleared the path for dancehall to become widely accepted.
“Beyoncé was stepping out on her own [genre], and this was such a big artist. I was [working] with Busta Rhymes, I was doing stuff with Clipse, and I was doing stuff with Blu Cantrell,” he remembered. “All of those stuff was very dope, but they were more hip-hop oriented.”
Thus, it gave me a strong sense that the dancehall genre was gaining popularity and that many people were enjoying my music. It made sense to me and made history for both of us since I know she grew up listening to a lot of dancehall music and was familiar with that whole vibe coming from Texas.
