Benue Youth Coalition has withdrawn from a planned nationwide protest due to insecurity concerns. Learn more about their decision.

The consortium of young organizations in Benue State has opted out from the planned countrywide demonstrations set to take place on August 1 and 10.

A joint statement released on Saturday by the Benue Youth Good Governance Movement (BYGGM), Benue Advancement Forum (BAF) and Benue Pro-Active Network (BPN) announced their decision to follow Professor Joseph Terlumun Utsev’s recommendation. The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation intervened after a thoughtful consideration, leading them to this conclusion.

Expressing concern over the security situation in Benue state, the coalition comprising of Abajih Terhide Gabriel and Oche Daniel Itodo as its conveners issued a statement highlighting that violence is highly likely due to current volatile conditions.

They believe that organizing a rally which could result in unrest would only worsen the security situation of the state.

After closely monitoring the situation, we have come to a conclusion that protesting would not serve the best interests of our people presently.

Instead, our focus is on directing our efforts towards activities that are both constructive and beneficial for the betterment of our communities.

Professor Utsev’s intervention is greatly appreciated.

It is our strong belief that violence and social turmoil do not provide us with the solutions to address our challenges.

We should focus on discovering beneficial resolutions by means of communication and involvement, rather than anything else. It is our strong plea that they lend their backing to the government and Utsev’s efforts aimed at tackling the issues we face with full dedication.

According to Obasanjonews.com, the nation is on edge as certain youths and activists intend to hold demonstrations throughout the country due to starvation.
