The Benue State Police Command has issued a warning to anyone planning to hold a protest there.

According to a press release issued by SP. Anene Sewuese Catherine, the police public relations officer (PPRO), on Sunday in Makurdi, “The State Commissioner of Police, CP. Bartholomew Nnamdi Onyeka PSC, described the action as a plan to sabotage efforts of the police to manage the fragile security situation that is currently being handled.”

In addition, Onyeka stated that “a protest at this time will avail hoodlums and other criminal-minded persons an opportunity to cause mayhem.”

He advised those who intended to protest to hold off because the situation is not appropriate for a protest.

According to the announcement, “Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) have been directed to tighten up security in their areas of responsibility and resist any efforts of protesters to encourage breech of peace.”

He asked all parties to caution their children and wards against engaging in any type of protest at this delicate time, including traditional authorities, religious figures, youth leaders, and parents.

The CP reassured the populace of his dedication to fighting crime and exhorted them to give the police pertinent and timely information.
