The Benue State University College of Health Sciences’ bonding arrangement for medical students has been reinstated by Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State.
This was made known at the college’s 9th Professional Induction and Admission Ceremony for the class of 2023 graduating doctors, held on Monday in Makurdi.
The state government has agreed to continue giving monthly allowances of 103,00 to all medical students enrolled at the institution till they graduate under the terms of this renewed bonding agreement.
However, there is a requirement that they serve the state for a minimum of two years before choosing their subsequent engagements.
The bonding arrangement was initially established under Gabriel Suswam’s administration but was abandoned under Samuel Ortom.
Graduating students left the state in droves in search of better chances elsewhere as a result of this discontinuance.
While making the announcement, Governor Alia urged Benuean medical professionals who had left the state in quest of better possibilities to come back, promising them increased opportunities there. He emphasised his dedication to helping the state-owned university and attaining the goals set forth in the policy statements of his administration.
He praised the foresight and commitment of the university’s Medical School’s founders and employees, praising their fortitude in establishing the institution from its inception to its current level despite several obstacles.
Governor Alia praised the school’s medical graduates for their outstanding contributions to the global healthcare industry.
He declared a rise in the number of students admitted into the MBBS programme from 75 to 150, attributing this to the institution’s excellent medical facilities and its reputation for producing top-notch physicians.
