Benue guber: Tribunal upholds the election of Governor Alia

The election of Governor Hyacinth Alia of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was upheld by the Benue State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Makurdi, the state capital.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Titus Uba, who ran for governor in the March 18 election, lost their plea to the tribunal contesting Alia’s victory.

The three-judge panel, presided over by Justice Ibrahim Karaye, concluded that the tribunal lacked the authority to hear the appeal since the problems stated were pre-election matters, as defined by section 285 of the Electoral Act.
