The Apa and Agatu LGAs of Benue State are facing an unavoidable food crisis due to the relentless attacks by marauding Fulani herdsmen.
The ongoing kidnappings and killings have forced the natives to abandon their communities, jeopardizing their plans to return for farming activities as the rainy season approaches.
Despite the locals’ pleas, the herdsmen persist in their daily assaults and violence.
The situation in the Apa/Agatu Federal Constituency has been dire for over a decade, with Agatu LGA bearing the brunt of the attacks.

The violence has now spread to neighboring areas, resulting in widespread destruction, loss of life, and displacement of thousands of residents.
The affected communities, such as Olegomakwu, Onahe, Ikobi, and Ijaha, are reeling from the carnage inflicted by the herdsmen.
The attackers justify their actions with claims of cattle rustling and opposition to the state’s anti-open grazing law, but the locals believe their true intention is to seize their lands and oppress their people.
Many of the assailants are foreign Fulani armed with sophisticated weapons, further escalating the conflict.
