Samuel Ortom, the former governor of Benue State, claims that Hyacinth Alia, his replacement, attacked him in the media.

The former governor claimed that Alia has subjected him to “all forms of persecution” since taking office in a statement released on Sunday by his media assistant Terver Akase.

If the governor isn’t accusing him of “robbing the state’s treasury and assets, he is blaming him for giving employment to Benue youths,” according to Ortom.

The former governor is accused of embezzling public monies while in office, according to these charges.

Ortom accepted an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, last week after being accused of participating in the theft of public funds.

He was specifically responding to Alia’s decision to establish an Assets Recovery Committee after the former governor was charged with embezzling public property.

Part of the statement states, “Governor Alia and his staff have been determined to ruin Ortom’s well-earned image by putting him on trial in the media since May 29, 2023.

“Our counsel to Governor Alia is unchanged: concentrate on governance and keep all of the commitments he made to the electorate during the campaigns.

Blaming Chief Ortom for the government’s failure to solve development challenges does not give the current administration any legitimacy.
