Sergei Shoigu, the Russian defense minister, has pledged a “harsh response” to any intrusions from Ukraine beyond international borders.
After Moscow said that an invasion in the Belgorod area had been repulsed, Putin made his remarks.
Vyacheslav Gladkov, the regional governor, said that a “large number” of drone assaults had occurred during the course of the previous night.
Two Russian paramilitary organizations hostile to Russian President Vladimir Putin claim responsibility for the attack, but Ukraine denies any participation.
On Monday, attackers crossed the border into Russia from Ukraine.
When reporting on the invasion to defense ministry officials, Mr. Shoigu said that “more than 70 Ukrainian nationalists” had been slain, with the remainder being driven back into Ukraine.
“We will continue to respond to such actions by Ukrainian militants promptly and extremely harshly,” the official said.
The Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK) and Liberty of Russia Legion (LSR), two Russian paramilitary organizations, denied suffering any losses but claimed that a Russian motorized rifle company had been destroyed.
The warring parties’ claims of casualties have not been objectively confirmed.
Additionally, Russia claims that the assault utilised military equipment from the West.
Although ISIS seemed to have shared images of wrecked US vehicles at the area of the conflict, several Ukrainian military analysts and bloggers have speculated that they may have been fabricated.
The US said that it did not “encourage or enable strikes inside of Russia” and expressed doubt that allegations that US-provided weaponry were used in the invasion were accurate.
However, Dmitry Peskov, a spokesperson for the Kremlin, said that the trucks were proof of escalating Western military involvement in Ukraine.
“It is no secret to us that Ukraine’s military forces are receiving an increasing amount of materiel. The employment of this weaponry against our own troops is not a secret, he said.
“We are coming to the right conclusions,”
