Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), disclosed on Friday in Ilorin that he received a warning from President Bola Tinubu against taking on a dangerous job.
“During my screening at the Senate, I told the entire nation that I am going to face a three-point agenda and I want to assure your royal highness that with these points, the EFCC will continue to serve the nation better without any intimidation or course to affect the operation of any legitimate business,” the head of the EFCC stated during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, at his palace.
“This is one of the riskiest jobs that anybody can take,” the speaker stated before to his selection as EFCC Chairman, according to President Tinubu.
“I told him it wouldn’t be difficult because I would be guided by the law and the professional ethics.”
The Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs and Emir of Ilorin responded by assuring the administration of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of his unflinching support in accomplishing the organization’s primary goals of combating crime and criminality in the state.
The Emir emphasised that he has never argued on behalf of someone who has broken the law since the anti-graft agency was established, stating, “This is because I cannot say the government is wrong for doing the right thing in society.”
“Ilorin Emirate is a tranquil place, and you’ll find that most criminals are outsiders; however, this means that Ilorin residents are always the ones who wind up becoming their landlords. I am the gatekeeper of the Ilorin Emirate, which serves as a gateway connecting the North and the South.
In addition, he detailed some of his experiences as the interim director of public prosecution in the former Gongola State while in the civil service, emphasising the importance of a leader not making grave mistakes while performing their duties.
But the Emir prayed for Ola Olukoyede’s success in office and counselled him to be focused and respect the law while doing his duties, as he had promised during his Senate screening.
