BBNaija Season 9 winner Kellyrae shares her plans for utilizing the N60 million prize money, including investments, charity, and personal projects.
Kingsley Sule, widely recognized as Kellyrae, the champion of Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) Season 9, has revealed his plans for the ₦60 million cash prize he won after his victory on Sunday.
Kellyrae emerged victorious, surpassing fellow finalists Wanni, Victoria, Sooj, Ozee, Onyeka, Nelly and Anita to secure the top position in the competition.
After his victory, Kellyrae received a total prize package worth ₦100 million, comprising a cash award of ₦60 million and an SUV valued at ₦40 million.
Speaking in Lagos on Wednesday, the 33-year-old singer reflected on his journey. Initially, he and his wife Kassia participated as a duo under the name DoubleKay before later deciding to compete individually.
In a Tuesday Instagram Live session, Kellyrae disclosed that he had already transferred ₦55 million of his winnings to Kassia. This announcement came after Ultimate Love star Kachi Ucheagwu shared a video message advising him not to pursue a music career or feel obligated to share the prize money with his wife. Instead, Kachi recommended investing in real estate for long-term financial stability.
When questioned about his intentions for the prize money, Kellyrae recognized the obligations that come with fame.
“If I were still single, it would be easier to list my plans. However, now it’s a family matter and we are making decisions together in the bedroom,” he commented.
Even though he received advice to change his focus, Kellyrae stayed dedicated to his musical dreams. “I am determined to use this N60 million prize for my music career. I appreciate the suggestions, but keep an eye on me; time will reveal all,” he stated.
Former BBNaija contestants, like Laycon from Season 5 and Efe from Season 2, entered the music scene but experienced only short-lived success. Similarly, others such as Vee, Uriel, Bisola, and Whitemoney have encountered challenges in maintaining their musical careers.
Reflecting on the challenges encountered by past BBNaija winners in the industry, Kellyrae observed, “Success isn’t assured, but it’s important to make an attempt.”
He also discussed the challenges that Nigerian musicians such as Psquare and Runtown have faced with record label disputes. When asked if he was ready to handle similar issues, Kellyrae replied, “The reality is life itself is a struggle, whether you’re signed to a music label or just lying in your bedroom. It’s up to you what battles you choose.”
In 2023, BBNaija All Stars returned for its eighth season by reintroducing former contestants such as Pere, CeeC, Mercy, and Whitemoney. Ilebaye emerged as the winner of this star-studded edition.
When asked about the potential of participating in an All-Stars edition, Kellyrae mentioned that neither he nor Kassia is interested in returning.
As Kellyrae embarks on this new chapter, many will be observing closely to see how he handles his newfound wealth and fame.
