Victor Anozie Alex, a victim who was purportedly slain by suspected herders in the Okumoni village of the Okordia clan, in the Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, has been found dead, according to the Bayelsa State Police Command.
After the herders assault on Monday, a group of locals allegedly searched the jungle for missing members of the community and discovered the body there.
Three people have been killed, including 23-year-old Alex, a Kogi State native.
Obasanjonews24 had previously reported that the attack by ravaging herdsmen last week purportedly resulted in the deaths of two chiefs from the communities of Zarama and Okumoni, both of the Okordia clan.
The dead, who was reportedly slain by herdsmen during the attack, was removed by tactical operatives, according to SP Asinim Butswat, the police public relations officer, who spoke to Obasanjonews24.
He said that police officers are presently searching the woodland and its surroundings.
According to a trustworthy source in the neighbourhood, a posse sent to look for some local missing people also discovered the deceased’s body.
According to him: “As the herders were firing intermittently, people rushed in separate ways into the bush for safety; that would have been when they killed him without anybody knowing.”
The insider, who wished to remain anonymous, added: “We are still taking this opportunity to request assistance from the government and other pertinent agencies. Since we could be compelled to do anything to protect our people, we don’t want to take the law into our own hands.
