Prior to the state’s November 11 governorship election, a group called New Generation Leaders (NGL) has advised Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri and his Chief of Staff, Peter Akpe, against using the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and its Founder, Pa. Enoch Adeboye, in politics.
Comrade Precious Charles Odede, the NGL coordinator for the Yenagoa Local Government Area, revealed that Diri and his team had decided to travel to Adeboye to ask the RCCG for help in the election.
In a statement to OBASANJO NEWS24, Odede claimed that Akpe was to accompany Diri to Adeboye and implore him to persuade the First Lady—Senator Remi Tinubu, an RCCG pastor—to support his reelection.
I have it on good authority that the Diri government has plans to enlist Pa Adeboye’s assistance, the man stated.
We know that Governor Diri and Pa Adeboye are attempting to meet in Lagos, according to Peter Akpe, the governor’s chief of staff. It’s anticipated that Pa Adeboye will persuade H.E. Senator Remi Tinubu, the first lady and an RCCG preacher, to endorse Diri out of sentiment.
But Odede predicted that the scheme would fall apart like a house of cards and recalled how Diri treated Mrs Tinubu with contempt in 2022 when the First Lady, who was then running for office alongside her husband, went to Bayelsa to comfort those affected by the state’s flood tragedy.
He claimed that Diri refused to provide Mrs. Tinubu the courtesy of receiving her and instead barred her from the Government House in Yenagoa.
Unfortunately, our lovely First Lady won’t succumb to that desperate scheme, Odede remarked. She is all too aware of how Gov. Diri barred her from Creek Haven Gates the previous year.
It’s also crucial to remember that Pa Adeboye is a father to everyone and that the RCCG is an independent church. We therefore request that the Bayelsa state government forgo the trip to Lagos in order to conserve tax payer money and concentrate on its governing duties.
