“This is the situation; you have to wait until the resolution of the legal issues when there are legal cases.”

The All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Bayelsa State remains unknown at this time, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which claims it is awaiting a final court judgement.

Many are unsure who will represent the APC in the election because a judge recently decided that Timipre Sylvia cannot be the party’s candidate on November 11.

The Commission’s Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Oyekanmi, stated on Channels Television’s Politics Today that the court’s ruling comes before INEC’s final say.

“What I’m saying is that the Commission will publicly state, ‘This is exactly the situation is,’ when the final decision on that specific subject is made. But kindly ease up and wait till the commission makes a decision, he remarked on Friday.

Rotimi argued that the commission must wait due to the ongoing “legal” proceedings when asked if the APC in Bayelsa State now has a candidate.

“This is the reality; you have to wait till the resolution of the legal difficulties in court lawsuits.

“Because anything may happen in a matter of days or weeks. You must wait till the higher court makes a ruling if someone has anything today and is appealing to a higher court, he added.

The Labour Party candidate in Imo State is also awaiting confirmation from a court order, the principal press secretary added.

I’m suggesting that we have a deadline for posting the list of applicants if it’s on our website.

“We comply when a court order instructs us to change from one name to another. ‘By court order’ is now included in the remarks section,’ he continued.

However, Rotimi claimed he was unaware of any substitutions or whether INEC had made a choice regarding the candidates.
