Out of the 7,026 graduates from Bauchi State University, Gadau, no fewer than 184 have received First Class degrees.
Professor Fatima Tahir, the university’s vice chancellor, revealed this information on Friday during a news conference in preparation for the university’s first-ever mixed convocation, which takes place on Saturday.

Tahir said that the Universit’s full academic programmes started in the 2011–2012 academic year, and that 3,593 students received second class upper division diplomas overall.
According to the VC, the University awarded 19 PhDs, 119 Postgraduate Diplomas, 19 Professional Masters, and 19 Academic Masters among its 484 postgraduate graduates from various programmes.
The purpose of the university, according to her explanation, was to “serve as catalyst for educational development and serving the needs for sustainable growth of the state and beyond,” as stipulated in the 2009 Bauchi State House of Assembly Act.
She claimed that the university has accomplished great things recently and credited the university’s success to the selfless work of young Nigerians who are qualified, dynamic, and involved members of the university community.
According to Tahir, the university is still a place of learning where students can come to acquire the knowledge and skills needed for both individual and societal growth.
Giving a detailed account of the events scheduled for the convocation ceremony, she revealed that Bappa Misau would perform the commissioning of the Central Library Complex, which is financed by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), on Friday.
She said that Governor Bala Mohammed, who is visiting the university, would also officially open a state-funded road construction project and commission the science faculty’s Phase 1 on Friday.
Professor Attahiru Jega, the recently retired chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), will give the First Convocation lecture later that day at 4:00 pm. The talk would be presided over by Barrister Ibrahim Kashim, the secretary to the Bauchi State government.
The VC claims that in keeping with university tradition, the Council and Senate have approved the awarding of honorary degrees to a number of distinguished individuals, including Governor Bala Mohammed, who have made significant contributions to humanity and national development.
