Bauchi Scheduled to Conduct Council Polls on August 10th
The arrangements to hold new local council elections on August 10, 2024, have been finalised by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission, or BASIEC.
According to Obasanjonews.com, this comes after State Governor Bala Mohammed dissolved the previously elected councils a year ago.
At a news conference on Friday, BASIEC Chairman Ahmed Makama informed the media that, in accordance with applicable legislation, the commission has given a 60-day notice for the local government council elections.
“If you count backwards 60 days, August 6th will arrive, which is not a Saturday, as elections are typically held on Saturdays. For this reason, we have rescheduled the election for Saturday, August 10, 2024,” Makama said.

He went on, “With this announcement, the nomination form sale has begun, and interested parties are encouraged to purchase them.”
Makama asked political parties and other interested parties to start getting ready so that the election process runs smoothly.
As the BASIEC does not keep its own voter record, he guaranteed that the commission is prepared to conduct free, fair, and credible elections by relying on the voter register kept by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.
Makama did, however, warn lawmakers that open campaigning are only allowed until 30 days before to election day, per legal requirements.
