Bauchi: PRP Blasts Gov Bala Mohammed, State Assembly’s Plans to Spend N3.4bn on Fuelling Vehicles, Generators
The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) criticizes Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed and the state assembly for planning to allocate N3.4 billion for fueling vehicles and generators, calling it an irresponsible expenditure.
The Bauchi State Chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has criticized the allocation of more than N3.4 billion for vehicle fuel, generator costs, and travel expenses in the 2025 budget by both the Bauchi State Government and the State House of Assembly, calling it a disgraceful example of mismanagement and greed.
In a statement released on Friday by State Secretary Wada Abdullahi, the party voiced its concern about the government’s misplaced priorities during Bauchi State’s economic challenges and urged those in power to demonstrate accountability.
The statement criticized the allocation of N1 billion for fueling vehicles and generators at the Government House, noting that N500 million was designated for vehicle fuel and another N500 million was set aside for generator fuel.
“The allocation of N1 billion is not just a testament to the extravagant lifestyle led by our leaders, but it also highlights their poor management of state resources. As families in Bauchi face financial hardships, it seems that the government prioritizes luxury over addressing its citizens’ urgent needs,” stated the statement.
Abdullahi also disclosed that the State House of Assembly intends to allocate an extra N1.4 billion for travel expenses, calling it a concerning misuse of public funds.
He questioned how many transformative healthcare facilities or schools could have been constructed with such funds, criticizing the government for prioritizing personal indulgences over essential community needs.
As if that weren’t already sufficient, the Office of the Secretary to the State Government has allocated an additional N1 billion for international travel.
“At the same time, our hospitals are missing essential medical equipment, our schools suffer from insufficient funding, and our roads are falling apart. It’s discouraging to see that the government prioritizes foreign trips over tackling the pressing problems facing our citizens,” he lamented.
“This statement highlights that our leaders prioritize their own interests over the welfare of the people they were elected to serve.”
The party strongly cautioned Governor Bala Mohammed and the members of the State House of Assembly, urging them to steer clear of what it termed a “dangerous course involving misappropriation and misuse of public funds.”
The party urged citizens to oppose the culture of impunity and seek accountability from their elected officials.
“The people of Bauchi need to come together in the pursuit of effective governance and put a stop to the ongoing exploitation of their resources. They must take back control from leaders whose greed endangers their state’s future,” the statement emphasized.
