Bauchi government allocates N413.8 million in scholarships to 19,191 students. Learn about the beneficiaries and impact of this educational support.
During a ministerial briefing arranged by the state’s ministry for Information and Digital Communication, Dr Lydia Tsamani – Commissioner for Higher Education – revealed this information.
Foreign scholarships worth N38 million were also disbursed by Tsamani to support indigent students studying abroad.
She stated that the adoption of e-scholarship by the scholarship board was aimed at modernizing and enhancing efficiency and accountability in application processes, payment of allowances, among others.
On behalf of the state government, the board was involved in a bilateral agreement between Nigeria and member countries such as Egypt, Algeria, Cyprus, Brazil, Russia , China etc. This provided an exceptional chance for indigenes of Bauchi state to receive full scholarships.

Under this agreement, sixteen indigenous students have been admitted and are currently studying.
The board received the Governor’s endorsement for a N120 million grant to Sheik Dahiru Bauchi’s Foundation, as explained by the commissioner. This funding will aid students from Bauchi State who have been awarded scholarships to study in Algeria and cover their air travel expenses.
According to Tsamani, the recently formed ministry for Higher Education has taken prompt action towards resolving numerous challenges affecting both it and each of the nine higher educational institutions.
She stayed in two rooms that were given to her by the Scholarship Board when she started her ministry.
Shortly thereafter, His Excellency gave his approval for the purchase of a space that was identified by the ministry in collaboration with the head of service’s office.
The Ministry was provided with renovated and comfortably furnished office accommodation.
The Ministry granted funding approval and released it to six institutions for the accreditation of certain expired courses, even though some of those institutions were on their last warning regarding course closure.
Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi, Saadu Zungur University Gadau, Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education in Kangere and Aminu Saleh College of Education in Azare were among the institutions whose courses received accreditation in 2024. Others include A.D. Rufa’i College of Education (Legal and General Studies), Misau as well as Bauchi State College of Agriculture located within Bauchi state limits.
