Nine members of the neighbourhood watch group Yan’ Ba Beli were ambushed and killed in Bauchi state by gunmen thought to be bandits.
When they (the vigilantes) were looking for bandits who have been killing and kidnapping innocent people for ransom in Ningi Local Government Area of the State, they were killed in Gamji Village Woodland by bandits whose name and number are unknown.
The thieves are accused of setting up an ambush and killing nine members of the neighbourhood vigilante organisation while wounding several others to varied degrees.

The incident occurred late Sunday, when vigilantes were searching for the bandits hiding in the forest with the intention of killing them while climbing the rocks around Gamji village. Ibrahim Mato, the interim chairman of the Ningi LGA, who confirmed the occurrence, denounced it and vowed that the government will keep up all efforts to safeguard innocent lives and property in the region.
Meanwhile, our source learned that the nine bodies were found on Monday and were buried at the place of the tragedy that same day in accordance with Islamic customs.
The event has not yet received an official statement from the Bauchi State Police Command. A text message and WhatsApp messages submitted to the command’s public relations officer, Superintendent of Police Ahmed Wakil, did not receive a response as of the time of publication.
