The Labour Party’s Thaddeus Atta has been proclaimed by the Appeal Court as the legitimately elected representative for the Eti Osa Federal Constituency in Lagos State in the House of Representatives.
Remember that the election was ruled inconclusive by the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal, which convened in September at Tafawa Balewa Square in Lagos. The tribunal mandated that 33 polling places whose elections were not held within ninety days have supplemental elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). On Tuesday, however, the Appeal Court reversed the tribunal’s decision and declared the elections to be definitive.
In this legal battle, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro faced off against well-known Nigerian artist and PDP nominee Bankole Wellington, also known as Banky W, who was declared the runner-up in the February 2023 election.
