Banky W shares insights into Wizkid’s early days in the music industry, describing him as a ‘studio rat’ before his rise to global fame. Discover the story behind Wizkid’s journey from humble beginnings to Afrobeat superstar.
Renowned music executive Banky W mentioned that Wizkid began his career by spending extensive time in the studio.
While reflecting on Wizkid’s early struggles before he became famous, Banky W made this statement.
In a viral social media video, Banky W revealed that Wizkid often spent hours lingering in various studios due to his inability to afford studio time. Banky W played a crucial role in kickstarting Wizkid’s career through his record label, Empire Mates Entertainment (EME).
The music executive, who referred to the Afrobeat star as a studio rat, recognized the singer’s dedication and talent.
For a significant period in his life, Wizkid did not have the financial means to afford studio time.
He was known as a studio rat, willing to spend entire days at any studio that would let him in. He waited patiently, hoping and praying for engineers or producers to take pity on him and offer 15 or 30 minutes of recording time since he couldn’t afford his own sessions.
All day long, he focused on crafting hooks and melodies, continuously generating ideas just in case he got the chance to grab the mic for five minutes.
He didn’t have time to consider what to write at that moment, so it naturally became his method.
“And now, he’s among the quickest songwriters I’ve ever met; he’ll simply sit down, listen, and begin freestyling a melody that transforms into a song everyone wants to sing. That’s how he earned the name Wiz,” he explained.
