On Monday, the army chief of Bangladesh proclaimed that an interim government would be established following Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s departure from the country via a military helicopter.
Following weeks of aggressive protests that have swept the nation, resulting in numerous deaths as demonstrators clash with law enforcement officials; recent developments reveal protesters stormed Bangladesh’s prime minister’s residence at Dhaka and demanded her resignation.
During an urgent press briefing, the army chief of Bangladesh, Waker-uz-Zaman declared that Hasina had stepped down and a fresh interim administration would be created to oversee the nation. He reasoned with demonstrators to withdraw from their protests and return home while urging civilians to have faith in the military’s ability to restore tranquility.
Zaman made a pledge to probe into all the fatalities arising from recent violent protests, and requested that demonstrators grant the army “some time” for resolving this crisis.
The army is currently in discussions with representatives from all of the major political parties, who have been invited to collaborate on establishing an interim government according to his statement.
The military leader stated that the nation does not require a curfew or state of emergency, and directed his troops to refrain from violence while urging demonstrators to aid in reestablishing order.
