Four million Naira is being sought as ransom by gunmen who are believed to be bandits and who kidnapped over eight members of the National Youth Service Corps.

Eight members of the Corps were reportedly abducted by militants last Friday along a highway in Zamfara State.

According to reports, the young people were being transported by an AKTC bus from Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto State to complete the required National Service when robbers ambushed and kidnapped their vehicle.

The father of one of the abducted victims, Emmanuel Eket, claimed in a telephone interview that Glory Thomas had been keeping him and his family informed of the most recent activities in the bandits’ camps.

He claimed that the bandits called him on her phone and informed him of his daughter’s kidnapping, demanding N4 million as ransom.

“They contacted me and gave me her number, wanting N4 million. When I inquired about how they wanted us to make payment, they permitted me to speak with my daughter, who suggested that we get in touch with the AKTC, the man continued.

Since then, neither they nor my daughter have phoned. My daughter hasn’t called me, so I’m unsure if they’ve been released.

Regarding the kidnapping, the Zamfara State Police Command has been mute.

However, a military insider who wished to remain unnamed verified the abduction and stated that a rescue team was now searching the woodland to find the victims unharmed.
