Rampaging outlaws launched assaults on two settlements in Zamfara State, resulting in the deaths of over 30 farmers, including a highly regarded Islamic scholar.
The police spokesman in Zamfara, ASP Yazid Abu Abubakar, verified the attacks on two local government areas within the state, promising to provide further information at a later time.
According to sources, the tragic events in Zamfara State unfolded on Thursday.
An online news outlet, PR Nigeria, detailed that the attacks transpired in Maradun and Tsafe local government areas.
Reports indicated that Mallam Makwashi Maradun Mai Jan Baki, a respected Islamic cleric, and another individual lost their lives in Maradun town.
Following the incident, two of the cleric’s children were reported missing.
The community of Gidangoga village mourned the loss of three individuals at the hands of the bandits, yet managed to retaliate by eliminating 24 bandits and seizing eight motorcycles.
A resident of Maradun expressed the escalating frequency of attacks in the area, leading to the abandonment of numerous communities due to fear of further violence.
PR Nigeria also disclosed that the bandits targeted Bilbis village in Tsafe LGA, resulting in the tragic deaths of 20 innocent civilians.
Local accounts revealed that the farmers were ambushed while tending to their fields, with the bandits displaying no compassion.
Additionally, it was reported that Alhaji Murtala Ruwan Bado, a district head of Garbadu in Talata Mafara Emirate, narrowly evaded a bandit assault on the same day along Mayananchi Road in the evening.
