The vice presidential candidate for the Labour Party in Nigeria said that no player’s pay will be late by more than an hour.
If Peter Obi and Datti Baba-Ahmed are elected president and vice president of the Labour Party (LP) in February, they promise to take sports, particularly football, seriously.
Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles, lost their spot in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to Ghana after they were knocked out of the African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The People’s Townhall, a live event hosted by Channels Television and its partners on Sunday, featured Baba-Ahmed and LP presidential candidate Peter Obi.
He promised that they would make sure Nigeria won the Nations Cup and took part in every World Cup.
“I will humbly request of Mr. President that whoever is in charge of sports sees to it that we move mountains in order to bring the African Cup to Nigeria.” There is no way Nigeria won’t be involved in the World Cup. Nigeria, by the grace of God, has moved on; it will not happen again, Baba-Ahmed vowed.
The Labour Party vice presidential candidate said that he and Obi’s government would make sure that athletes who represent Nigeria in sports are always paid their salaries and allowances. This would help Nigeria keep its promises to win the Nations Cup and qualify for the World Cup.
“This is entertainment, just like sport is entertainment.” Then, when the infrastructure expands, the participants will reap the benefits.
“Never will a Nigerian player’s salary or allowance be one hour late.” “We will be there to see to it that they are paid, to connect them with businesses and industries, and to boost their international profiles,” Baba-Ahmed continued.
