The youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the premier Igbo socio-cultural organisation, has requested Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) to refrain from commenting on the 2023 presidential election any more.

The Igbo group claimed that some remarks made by the politicians had the potential to damage the democratic structures of the nation.

This was said in a statement provided to journalists on Wednesday by Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, the national president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide.

OBASANJO NEWS24 notes that Obi stated at his news conference on Monday that the Supreme Court purposefully allowed constitutional violations concerning the requirements and qualifications set forth for presidential candidates.

According to Okwu, the statements made by both candidates have the potential to worsen the nation at a time when coordinated efforts are required to repair it.

The Ohanaeze chieftain counselled the LP and PDP leaders “to swallow the electoral defeat and move on in the best interest of the nation,” while acknowledging that an electoral process cannot support all candidates at the same time.

“They all undoubtedly had plans for the country that they intended to implement, but at this time, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was the favourite.

“They should provide their plan to Mr. President, who has since asked for their cooperation and support to advance the nation, regardless of their defeat.

“We asked them not to insult the political establishment with their remarks made during news conferences since a million such speeches in public will not overturn the Supreme Court’s ruling.

“Their supporters and followers will only grow to hate the current government as a result of the divisive remarks, which will breed mistrust between the people and the government.”

He added that all political parties have benefited from rulings made by different courts following the election.

“It is regrettable that certain politicians praise the legal system when things go their way, only to disparage it when things don’t go their way.

Politicians in Nigeria ought to quit saying, “It has to be me, baby.” This is among the issues impeding the nation’s rapid progress.

“Everyone should unite behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and work to ensure his success now that he is leading.” Only those who lack patriotism would want to see him fail.
