Authorities requested to arrest MC Oluomo for election-related violence
The Civil Rights Advocacy Group: Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has requested that Musilu Akinsanya, also known as M.C. Oluomo, be detained for allegedly threatening voters who might not want to support his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), in the Lagos State governorship election on March 18.
In addition, HURIWA has urged Lagos people to arm themselves with legal firearms in order to defend their unalienable right to life because it appears that the city’s security personnel are corrupted and collaborating with regressive elements bent on inciting violence.
“Chairman of the Lagos State Park and Garage Management Committee Musiliu Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, told the people in Lagos to remain at home on March 18 if they do not vote for the All Progressives Congress” (APC).
“In a trending social media video posted on Thursday, MC Oluomo made these remarks while posing as a member of the Igbo ethnic community, a sizable portion of which lives in Lagos.
” That is not a conflict if they did not vote for us, he remarked in Pidgin English. Iya Chukwudi, if you do not wish to support us, then oo sit down at home. Your vote is not needed by us.
This came after concerns that the Labour Party, which defeated the APC in the presidential poll on February 25, may repeat its triumph. In that election, Bola Tinubu, a powerful politician in Lagos, lost to Peter Obi, who received more votes.
The statement from HURIWA was provided to Obasanjonews24 on Friday by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko. “As of press time, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has not replied to MC Oluomo’s threat,” it said.

In a statement, HURIWA requested that MC. Oluomo be detained right away and charged with inciting violence. “HURIWA is hereby asking the Inspector General of Police Usman Alkali Baba or the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) Alhaji Yusuf Magaji Bichi to order this,” the statement said.
HURIWA claimed that MC Oluomo’s actions of voter intimidation and threat violated Sections 125 and 128 of the Electoral Act 2022, noting that both sections expressly provided for three years in prison for political actors who were discovered to have incited voters and threatened the electorate in an election.
According to Onwubiko of HURIWA, “MC Oluomo’s action violates the Electoral Act 2022, particularly Section 125, which states that anyone who disrupts an election by acting disorderly or encouraging others to do so commits an offence and is subject to a maximum fine of N500,000 or a term of imprisonment of 12 months, or both, upon conviction.
Additionally, MC OLUOMO’S actions are in violation of Section 128(a), which states: “A person who—(a) directly or indirectly, by himself or herself or by another person on his or her behalf, uses or threatens to use any force, violence, or restrain commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine of N1,000,000 or imprisonment for a term of three years.”
