August 1: Govt Promotes Tinubu’s Achievements, Asks Citizens to Avoid Protest

The Nigerian government emphasizes Tinubu’s accomplishments and asks citizens to refrain from protests on August 1. Discover the details behind this request.

Prior to the scheduled nationwide protest, George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has emphasized on the accomplishments made by Tinubu’s administration.

At a World Press Conference held in Abuja on Wednesday, Akume acknowledged that Nigerians are facing unplanned economic hardships caused by some of the daring policy choices made by this administration.

According to him, the administration of Tinubu prioritizes achieving economic prosperity for the nation as its ultimate objective.

He further emphasized that it serves as a driving force behind progress and strength in societies by eradicating poverty among families.

Insisting that peace and stability are essential to building trust, cooperation, and shared purpose, he urged for their promotion.

“He said that peace reigns when policies yield results, businesses thrive, investments flourish, and creativity is unleashed.”

According to Akume, the economy that was handed over to Tinubu’s administration in May 2023 required immediate and innovative reforms.

He stated that policy actions, such as eliminating an unfeasible fuel subsidy system, were necessary.

It must be acknowledged that this has led to unforeseen changes affecting every aspect of our economy and daily routines.

According to him, the Tinubu government disbursed five billion Naira to every state in order to alleviate the effects of fuel subsidy removal.

A wage award of thirty-five thousand naira, higher than the minimum wage, was approved for a six-month period to mitigate the impact on workers.

A new National Minimum Wage Act has been signed into law which sets the minimum wage at N70,000:00. This marks a notable increase of over 100% from the previous amount (30,000), and is effective retroactively as of April, among other changes.
