IGP Egbetokun orders organizers to submit details for NEWSAug 1 protest. Stay informed with the latest updates on this crucial directive.

To participate in the August 1-10 protests, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has instructed organizers to submit their information to the police commissioners in their respective states.

On Friday, he addressed journalists in Abuja and spoke.

Hours after human rights activist Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa requested protection for the Take It Back Movement, IGP Egbetokun made a demand. This comes in response to Adegboruwa’s notification to both the police and Department of State Services (DSS).

According to Egbetokun, intending protesters should furnish the commissioners of police in their states with their details as a prerequisite for maintaining peace during the protest.

“We recognize the lawful entitlement of Nigerian citizens to participate in peaceful demonstrations and rallies,” affirmed Egbetokun.

We strongly encourage all groups intending to protest to furnish relevant information to the Commissioner of Police in the state where the demonstration is planned, for public safety and orderliness.

For a smooth and safe demonstration, kindly furnish us with the proposed protest routes and assembly points as well as the anticipated duration of the event. Also provide details like names and contact information for organizers or leaders involved in planning it.

On Thursday, in a statement released earlier, DSS alleged to have discovered intentions by certain plotters to take control of the scheduled demonstration.

Peter Afunanya, the spokesman for DSS, stated that the plotters intend to utilize their planned violent outcome as a means of tarnishing and discrediting both federal and sub-national government entities. The ultimate goal is to create public dissatisfaction with these institutions while inciting animosity between them and society at large.
