Dr Ahmed Audi, the Commandant General (C-G) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has offered the Plateau government of his cooperation in combating the state’s rising insecurity.
Audi made the assurance when he paid a visit to Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang at the Government House in Jos on Wednesday.
“We’re going to do everything we can to make sure this crisis ends,” he declared. “We have to fight together.”
He stated that the NSCDC was aware of the series of repeated attacks on various villages in Mangu Local Government Area (LGA), as well as other parts of the state, and termed the development as tragic.
He stated that the purpose of his visit was to express his condolences to Mutfwang, the administration, and the people of Pllateau for the senseless attacks, and to offer the corps’ assistance in preventing such tragedies and finding long-term solutions.
The C-G characterised the NSCDC’s constitutional tasks as including the protection of the government’s essential assets and infrastructure, the supervision and licencing of private guard companies, and disaster mitigation.
According to him, the corps also provides intelligence and security to the government, farmers, and other agro-allied investments in the country through specially trained individuals known as Agro Rangers.
He also listed the NSCDC’s National Safe School Centre in Abuja as one among the activities aimed at protecting schools.
While wishing the governor well in his duties as governor, Audi expressed trust in Mutfwang’s ability to provide justice and peace in Plateau.
He then stated that he intends to travel to Mangu to meet with traditional rulers and other stakeholders, as well as to tour IDP camps.
Muftwang responded by thanking the NSCDC for its services to combating instability in the state, emphasising that the corps’ engagement and cooperation was important to ending the issue.
He stated that he will continue to work with the corps to ensure mutual cooperation in enhancing Plateau’s security systems.
The governor stated that his administration was dedicated to construct a new Plateau of justice, equity, and fairness for all, and he asked NSCDC’s collaboration to accomplish this goal.
He thanked Audi for his planned visit to Mangu, particularly his plans for the IDPs, saying the people needed all the help they could get to reclaim their livelihoods and return to their ancestral homes. (NAN)
