Atlanta’s mayor, Andre Dickens, has acknowledged the contribution of Nigerian-American musician David Adeleke, better known by his stage name, Davido, to the city’s entertainment industry.

After the OBO crooner’s A.W.A.Y Festival headline performance at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, the Mayor and Atlanta City Council proclaimed November 18 as “Davido Day” in commemoration of the singer.

The Mayor said that Davido has “captivated audiences worldwide, becoming a global icon in the music industry” in a letter to the artist on November 21, 2023, his birthday. Thank you for all of your hard work as a well-known singer, songwriter, producer, business executive, philanthropist, and community activist on behalf of the City of Atlanta. You’ve received an amazing amount of recognition throughout the course of your amazing career, yet you still use your position to support communities both in America and throughout Africa.

“Be it resolved that we, the members of the Atlanta City Council, on behalf of the citizens of Atlanta, do hereby proclaim November 18, 2023, as Davido Day in the City of Atlanta,” the council stated earlier in a statement.
