On Wednesday in Abuja, the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) allowed three sets of reports on the voting systems used in the previous presidential election that were created by a team of statisticians into evidence.
In support of the petition filed by former vice president Atiku Abubakar disputing Bola Tinubu’s victory in the presidential election on February 25, renowned statistician Samuel Oduntan presented the reports to the court.
The three reports were admitted as exhibits by the court’s presiding justice, Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, over the objections of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tinubu, and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abubakar Mahmud, the former president of the NBA, Wole Olanipekun, and Lateef Fagbemi respectfully presented the arguments for INEC, Tinubu, and the APC during the proceedings on Wednesday.
The three attorneys fought against both the request to read the reports aloud in open court and the admission of the documents.
The petition will now be heard again on June 15 with a focus on the witness’s cross-examination, per Justice Tsammani.
