According to Atiku’s former aide, Buhari won’t be able to conspire against Tinubu in 2027, dispelling rumors of potential political plots.
Segun Showunmi, the ex-spokesperson of Atiku Abubakar’s Presidential Campaign Organization and a national chairmanship contender of the Peoples Democratic Party, shares his thoughts behind Atiku’s visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura located in Katsina State.
There have been speculations that the recent visit of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other Peoples Democratic Party leaders to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari is a strategic move by the North to regain political power in 2027. What is your stance on this matter?
It is impossible to discuss the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not recognize former President Muhammadu Buhari as one of its key leaders. Therefore, any visit made to him is appropriate and well-deserved. Unlike many other leaders in the country who tend to speak too much, Buhari has become a master at speaking sparingly. When someone with his experiences can still communicate effectively while saying less, their words carry great weight and importance.
Hence, I deem any individual to possess wisdom if they wish to strategize for the betterment of our nation by paying respect, seeking counsel and advice from its leaders while also ensuring their well-being. Thinkers naturally ponder amidst chattering voices in order to gain clarity either through sound or sight. Personally, Atiku Abubakar’s conduct towards Buhari is commendable according to me.
I extend my congratulations to Atiku for taking the initiative to visit his elder brother. Our leaders are often subjected to victimization from their followers who burden them with unrealistic expectations and arguments that impede progress. It is heartening that Atiku defied societal opinions about political party affiliation, recognizing instead the need for any presidential aspirant to aspire towards leading not just a particular household or tribe but rather an entire Nigeria.
Individuals with extensive knowledge often possess a unique viewpoint distinct from those of us who lack it. Based on my limited understanding, Ladi Adebutu and the PDP exhibited exceptional performance during the recent election cycle. Despite our prior negligence towards him, Adebutu proved his electability in said elections. We fulfilled adequate measures to recognize and appreciate his efforts throughout this process.
In my opinion, the standpoint of Sikiruliah Ogundele – the party chairperson advocating for more liberal and approachable policies – only reflects his recent awareness towards fulfilling his duties. If he had previously fulfilled these obligations, he wouldn’t have expressed such views since our constitution does not permit influential or financial backers to supersede existing party laws as candidates.
