Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, cast his ballot in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State, with a plea for the kind of intervention that would make the newly redesigned Naira notes available to regular Nigerians.

In the midst of a crowd of supporters, Atiku cast his ballot in his Ajiya Ward in Old GRA, Jimeta, at around 9:30 am. Immediately afterward, he answered questions from reporters.

In response to the concern over the limited supply of the new Naira notes, Atiku stated, “To the extent that it was supposed to stop vote buying, I think it is a laudable exercise, but then I think the accessibility of the new Naira notes to the average man needs to be worked on.”

Although Atiku is from Jada, an LGA in the southern portion of Adamawa State, he frequently lodges in Jimeta when he is there and has his voting base in Ajiya Ward 012, adjacent to his Yola mansion, where he typically casts his vote.

As of the time of this report’s submission on Saturday morning, voting had gone without a hitch in the capital of Adamawa State.

Several observers voiced dissatisfaction with the low voter attendance at the various polling places, but others felt that it was still too early in the day to draw such a conclusion.
