Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s nominee for president, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to maintain its impartiality.
Atiku asked Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the National Chairman, to direct the collation officers for the election on Saturday to promptly upload the results from the polling places to INEC’s system.
In a statement released on Sunday, spokesperson Paul Ibe questioned why it was taking so long to post the results after several regions of the country had completed their voting.

In order to “checkmate those governors who are trying to compromise the results at the local government collation level,” Atiku asked INEC to take prompt action.
Any attempt to undermine the will of the people as freely expressed in their votes from yesterday would be a disservice to Nigerians and a violation of democracy, he said.
The former vice president urged Nigerians to maintain their composure while remaining vigilant to prevent anti-democratic elements who are disguising themselves as progressives from seizing power.
Ibe claimed that preliminary data from polling places and exit surveys suggest that Atiku is likely to become the first candidate to receive the minimum 25% of votes cast in at least 24 states, making history.
In at least 10 states, where he is anticipated to receive more than 40% of the vote, the PDP flagbearer is also expected to outperform predictions, according to the statement.
