If he wins this month’s presidential election, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has pledged to free Nnamdi Kanu.
Since last year, Kanu, the head of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), a group that is prohibited, has been detained.
Adolphus Wabara, a former Senate president and PDP board trustee, stated this during the party’s presidential campaign rally on Saturday in Umuahia. He claimed Atiku pledged to free the IPOB leader within the first 100 days of taking office.
In the first hundred days of his presidency, Atiku has pledged to free our son from prison. Nobody frightens him, he says. He will follow through on his promises, said Wabara.
The ex-president of the senate advised Abia State voters to support the PDP presidential candidate on February 25.
Before the ceremony began, Atiku and his running mate, Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, as well as the party’s national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, and the governors of Akwa Ibom and Sokoto states, Udom Emmanuel and Aminu Tambuwal, arrived at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
Namadi Sambo, a former vice president, and other members of the PDP Board of Trustees were also present.
Sam Ohuabunwa, a previous PDP presidential candidate, Theodore Orji, a former governor of Abia State, and other party veterans in Abia State were present to greet the entourage.
While his deputy, Ude Okochukwu, was present, Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was not at the campaign.
Ikpeazu, according to PlatinumPost, is one of the Group of Five Governors (G5) who have launched political war on PDP national chairman Iyorchia Ayu for his unwillingness to step down after another Northerner, Atiku, emerged as the party’s presidential candidate.
Even though they promised to announce their vote for president before the general elections, none of the G5 governors have so far gone to an Atiku campaign event.
