Key political figures Atiku, Obi, and Kwankwaso are reportedly in talks to support a unified candidate for the 2027 elections, according to the PDP.
On Monday, a spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reported that the three primary opposition figures in Nigeria are exploring merging as a means to rescue Nigerians from famine and rampant insecurity before the presidential election of 2027.
On Monday’s Sunrise Daily programme on Channels Television, Ibrahim Abdullahi, the deputy national spokesman of PDP expressed this.
In anticipation of the 2027 election, he expressed his belief that Atiku Abubakar from PDP, Peter Obi from Labour Party and Rabiu Kwankwaso representing NNPP will set aside their personal interests to create a strong alliance capable of defeating APC who are currently in power.
According to Abdullahi, if his party’s previous administration had handled conflicts effectively, distinguished leaders such as the former governor of Rivers State Nyesom Wike, Kwankwaso and Obi would remain loyal members of the PDP. As a result, they could have triumphed over Bola Tinubu from APC in the most recent election.
He lamented, “If only we had Kwankwaso and Peter Obi in our party, victory would have been assured. It’s a huge loss to us.”
If we had just one of the individuals I mentioned, we would have bridged the gap caused by APC’s claim that they won with over a million votes. Our party would currently be in power and Nigerians wouldn’t be experiencing this deep sense of hopelessness.
Abdullahi confirmed that the PDP is in discussions to bring back Obi, Kwankwaso, Wike and others into the party. According to him, Peter Obi has already met with Atiku and El-Rufai. The management of a political party poses its own challenges but they are doing their best amidst adversity. Abdullahi assured everyone that lessons have been learned from past experiences which were harsh at times; however there will be hope for better days ahead as everything unfolds eventually.

Tinubu emerged as the front-runner in 12 out of Nigeria’s 36 states and garnered considerable support in other states during the presidential election held in 2023. With a total of 8,794,726 votes secured by him, he claimed victory with an almost two-million-vote lead over his closest opponent Atiku Abubakar from PDP.
With six attempts under his belt, Atiku received a total of 6,984,520 votes during the presidential election. Newcomer Obi made an impressive debut by earning an unprecedented 6,101,533 votes. Kwankwaso came in fourth place but celebrated victory in Kano State as he secured 1,496687 total votes.
It is interesting to note that Obi and Kwankwaso were previously members of the PDP for several months prior to the last election; however, they attributed irreconcilable differences as their reasons for leaving.
Who is going to resign?
When questioned about the outcome of Obi and his companions rejoining the PDP, he responded by stating that one individual would step down for another, resulting in a clear course of action.
Our party and the individuals we previously mentioned are primarily focused on rescuing Nigerians from their current state of hopelessness, which has resulted from both hunger and alarming levels of insecurity in our nation. The incompetence and lack of direction demonstrated by those presently responsible for governing Nigeria is undeniable.
According to the PDP chieftain, rescuing Nigerians from their current difficulties is of greater significance than the personal aspirations of the threesome.
According to him, Atiku stated that he would take Nigeria out of its state of hopelessness if it is necessary.
Atiku’s participation in the race should be reconsidered. He asserts that, as a democrat, he is entitled to run and points out that the constitution permits him to do so whenever he chooses.
He wants to express that there exists no limit preventing him from running for office. This is his essential democratic entitlement, yet he is not insinuating that he will impose it forcefully on either the party or nation.
It’s crystal clear that Peter Obi is qualified and we’ll endorse him if he gets the ticket. Similarly, Atiku possesses suitable qualifications and we would back him up to rescue Nigerians from this predicament.
