Before the Abuja tribunal, the Labour Party and its candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, had also submitted a plea.
Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the presidential election, but the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) nominee for president, Atiku Abubakar, has filed a petition with the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to challenge this.
Silas Joseph Onu, a member of the Atiku Law Team, verified the submission on Tuesday night.
This comes just after Tinubu’s position as the victor of the presidential election on February 25, 2023, was contested by the Labour Party (LP) and its candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, in a similar appeal before the electoral petitions tribunal in Abuja.
The petition is titled CA/PEPC/03/2023, and the first through fourth respondents are INEC, Tinubu, Senator Kashim Shettima, who is his running mate, and the APC.
The petitioners are asking the tribunal to rule that Tinubu did not get a majority of the valid votes cast in the election, as required by law. They are asking for a court order compelling INEC to take back the certificate of return it had previously given to the APC candidate and give a new one to Obi.
