Atiku Confirms Opposition Coalition to Oust APC, Dismisses Defection Claims

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar affirms plans for a strong opposition coalition to challenge APC in 2027 but refutes rumors of his defection.
Atiku Abubakar, the former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), refuted claims that he had left the party.
Atiku stated that the reports claiming he had defected from the PDP were intended to create confusion within an ongoing coalition process.
Reports suggest that Atiku is finalizing plans to leave the PDP and join the Social Democratic Party, SDP.
Nevertheless, Atiku’s media office asserted on Saturday that the former Vice President is indeed a bona fide member of the PDP.
According to a statement from his media office, “We have noticed that certain news outlets are spreading unverified claims suggesting that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is leaving the Peoples Democratic Party.”
We want to make it clear that the rumors about Atiku switching parties are completely false and have no basis in reality.
Abubakar emphasized that a coalition would include all opposition parties, such as the PDP.
It further stated, “Therefore, claiming that the Waziri is leaving the PDP is both misleading and baseless. This allegation contradicts the goals of the grand coalition that the former Vice President is actively leading with other notable political figures in the nation.”
Hence, we want to make it clear that Atiku is undeniably a key and legitimate member of the PDP, the primary opposition party.
The statement emphasized that the defection claims were intended to “mislead Nigerians regarding the significant impact of the grand coalition working to liberate Nigeria from APC’s control.”
