Atiku condemns the use of live ammunition on protesters in Kano and Abuja, calling for an end to such practices.

Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President, has forcefully condemned the utilization of live ammunition by security personnel during nonviolent demonstrations in Kano and Abuja.

Following reports of security personnel firing on protesters, the demonstrations that were part of #EndBadGovernance movement became violent.

Abubakar was extremely worried about the incident and commented, “The utilization of real bullets on nonviolent protesters will only intensify strain and hinder their protests.”

He stressed the fact that such deeds encroach upon citizens’ fundamental rights, which include their ability to voice concerns and insist on government transparency.

Abubakar stated that the use of live ammunition on peaceful protesters fighting against bad governance is highly unacceptable and brings back memories of oppressive military regimes.

He emphasized the responsibility of both the government and security agencies in ensuring a secure atmosphere for citizens to protest without apprehension. Additionally, he stated that it is vital for security forces to safeguard peaceful protestors instead of inciting them further.

Abubakar urged the United Nations and the International Criminal Court, along with other members of the global community, to oversee Nigeria’s condition and bring those culpable for it to justice.

In addition, he implored President Tinubu to exhibit genuine leadership by addressing the requests of Nigerians in a timely manner.
