Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president, has denounced the spread of the deadly bacterial disease diphtheria in some regions of the nation.
In a tweet on his official X account on Tuesday, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate for the general elections of 2023 responded to the diphtheria outbreak in the nation.
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and 18 states in the nation, according to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), have reported 453 deaths from 7,202 confirmed cases of diphtheria in 105 local government districts.
Atiku responded by saying, “My heart goes out to the families and parents of the victims of this awful sickness.
“I urge the Federal and State Ministries of Health and Social Welfare, the NCDC, the primary healthcare authorities, and all relevant agencies to step up action to curtail the spread of this disease, which is quickly becoming an epidemic.”
