The primary election for governor of the Imo State Labour Party was won by Senator Athan Achonu, a former senator from Imo North.
With 134 votes, Achonu defeated 15 other contenders to win the election.
The Chairman of the Imo State Labour Party Governorship Primary Election Panel and newly elected governor of Abia, Dr. Alex Otti, announced the results on Saturday. He said Senator Achonu received 134 votes, followed by Major General Lincoln Jack Ogunewe (retd), who received 125 votes.
“I wish to say that the election was transparent, free, and fair,” the panel’s chairman said.
“I now re-nominate Athan Achonu for LP.”
Ndidi Amike scored one, AIG Ugommuo one, Maduka Basil three, Nwagwu Kelechi nine, Martin Agbaso thirteen, and Cpt. Mbamara five.
Achonu congratulated the members of the party for their contributions to his win in a speech to his supporters immediately after the announcement.
He also expressed gratitude for the delegates’ work and pledged to advance the state in significant ways.
