Joseph Agabaidu, a 500-level Geology student at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Bauchi, was fatally stabbed during an attempted phone theft.
The event happened on Saturday night at around seven o’clock when he got back to his lodge in Yelwa, a neighbourhood of the Bauchi city, according to Obasanjo News24.
The deceased is reported to have been the oldest of his family’s four children who attended ATBU, Bauchi.

The next morning, he passed away from his wounds in spite of attempts to bring him medical attention.
To draw attention to security issues and pressure the administration, authorities, and security services to improve student safety, ATBU students are organising a nonviolent demonstration on Monday.
One of the students who talked in confidence informed the Daily Post that another ATBU student experienced a similar incident last December, which is when the fatal tragedy occurred.
We beg the authorities in Bauchi State, the police, and the school administration to prioritise and improve student security in the wake of this tragic tragedy.
“We shouldn’t have to see such suffering in our society, and taking preventative action is essential to averting other tragedies.
“Three of Joseph’s siblings attend ATBU as well; he is their elder brother.” His siblings, the vice president of SUG, and two other university employees will be returning his body home, he said.
