At the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, or ATBU, in Bauchi, tensions flared on Monday as students protested the death of a colleague and were set upon by Nigeria Police Force agents.

As previously reported by Obasanjo News24, the students declared they would stage a nonviolent demonstration on Monday in response to the homicidal stabbing death of Joseph Agabaidu, a university final-year Geology student, during a robbery incident.

According to reports, the robbery happened on Saturday night.

At approximately 7:00 p.m., the 500-level Geology student was reportedly being attacked as he made his way back to his lodge, which was located near the Yelwan Tudu Market in the Yelwa neighbourhood, a suburb of Bauchi city.

According to reports, the victim’s injuries from the incident caused her death.

As a result, the Police, who had positioned their armoured tankers in front of the school gate, broke up the students’ demonstration on Monday.

When students shut the gate and caused disruptions to campus activities, the scene became more heated.
