Gian Piero Gasperini, the manager of Atalanta, lauded Ademola Lookman after the Nigerian forward assisted the Serie A team in defeating Sporting Lisbon of Portugal on Thursday night.
Giorgio Scalvini and Matteo Ruggeri, both members of the academy, scored in Gasperini’s team’s 2-1 victory over the hosts.
Lookman excelled during the game, posing challenges to Sporting Lisbon’s defence.
After the game, the seasoned strategist had nothing but admiration for the Nigerian winger.
“Lookman gave one of the better performances for Atalanta and possibly his best effort of the season. Gasperini was quoted by Sky Sports Italia as saying, “I don’t know if he will be able to match last year’s goal tally. He created many dangerous situations and is getting better.
Atalanta currently holds the group lead with a perfect record and six points after two games.
Sporting and Sturm Graz are next with three points, but Polish champions Rakow are still without a point or a goal.
