An Israeli airstrike on a designated safe zone in Gaza has left at least 40 people dead, heightening tensions and raising concerns over civilian safety in the conflict zone.
On Tuesday, a busy area designated for the safety of displaced Palestinians in Gaza was hit by an Israeli attack which resulted in over 40 fatalities.
According to reports, the tent encampment of Al-Mawasi near Khan Younis was struck by at least four missiles during the early morning hours.
The assault caused burns to a minimum of 60 individuals, ignited the tents, and created multiple pits with depths up to nine meters.
Israel claimed to have targeted a noteworthy amount of Hamas militants who were active in the region.
The group rebuffed accusations from Israel that there were armed individuals at the patch of land beside the shore, dismissing it as an overt falsehood.
No evidence was provided by either Israel or Hamas to support their assertions.
According to aid agencies, the Al-Mawasi area now houses over 380 thousand people and has experienced several fatal Israeli assaults this year.
The search for potential casualties underneath the sand is ongoing by civil defence teams. Reports indicate that entire families perished in their tents.
The strike occurred shortly after midnight and caused a fire, according to Attaf al-Shaar. He had been displaced from Rafah in the south.
“At the scene, she informed a reporter that individuals had been buried in sand and their remains were retrieved as body parts.”
Around 24 casualties were brought in from the strike to Nasser Hospital located in Khan Younis, which was one of the three hospitals designated for this purpose.
Approximately 90% of the territory is currently subject to Israeli evacuation orders.
Almost every one of the 2.3 million residents in Gaza has been compelled to leave their residences at least once, with some having to evacuate up to ten times.

According to Israeli records, the conflict began on October 7th after Hamas initiated an attack in southern Israel that resulted in approximately 1,200 recorded deaths and roughly 250 people taken captive.
According to the health ministry of Gaza, over 40,000 Palestinians have lost their lives in Israel’s subsequent attack on the region.
Throughout this year, the United States, Egypt and Qatar have invested significant efforts towards negotiating a truce and securing freedom for captured individuals.
Nevertheless, negotiations have continuously stalled due to Israel and Hamas blaming each other for presenting fresh and unsatisfactory conditions.
Due to the ongoing fighting, Israeli restrictions, and the breakdown of law and order in Gaza, humanitarian groups are facing challenges delivering aid as a result of the crisis that has engulfed Gaza.
Despite coordinating with the military, a convoy participating in a polio vaccination campaign was stopped by Israeli troops for over eight hours on Monday, according to the primary United Nations agency offering aid to Palestinians.
According to Philippe Lazzarini, the leader of UNRWA, the personnel who were detained had participated in the effort taking place within northern Gaza and also Gaza City.
It was unclear whether the vaccination drive in northern Gaza would take place on Tuesday as he mentioned that the convoy had returned to a UN base.
Following the discovery of the first polio case in 25 years within the enclave, doctors initiated an immunisation campaign.
The goal is to immunize 640,000 children.
