ASUU: Sanusi’s Fiscal Approach Could Have Prevented University Deficits, Unlike Emefiele, Cardoso

ASUU suggests that Nigerian universities wouldn’t suffer deficits if CBN governors Emefiele and Cardoso had adopted Sanusi Lamido Sanusi’s financial strategies, urging for better fiscal management in education.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) stated that universities would not face infrastructural deficits if the successors followed the example set by former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Muhammad Sanusi.

The ASUU National President, Emmanuel Osodeke, stated that public universities would not be facing infrastructural deficits if former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele and the current governor Yemi Cardoso had followed in Sanusi’s footsteps.

In an interview with Channels Television’s Inside Sources, Osodeke mentioned that the Central Bank of Nigeria has designated intervention funds for universities which have yet to be utilized.

He stated, “If the actions Sanusi took as CBN governor had been continued by his successors, we would be discussing additional university projects. However, when the next person came in, it all stopped.”

A new person has taken over, and no one is discussing that fund anymore; it’s referred to as Community Social Responsibility. It’s still there.

Therefore, we should inquire whether the CBN governor is observing my actions: how did Emir Sanusi manage to generate funds to initiate projects in all federal universities and numerous state universities across the country within just four years?

Why couldn’t Emefiele accomplish that? Why hasn’t the current one considered it yet? And why have all those who were there previously done nothing about it?

“He (Cardoso) has been in office for a year. Has he accomplished anything? Have you noticed any projects at any university?”
