The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) ends its two-week strike, directing lecturers across polytechnics in Nigeria to resume academic activities immediately.

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has instructed its members to return to work starting Monday, December 16, 2024.

This instruction comes after the conclusion of a two-week industrial action that took place from December 2, 2024, to December 15, 2024.

ASUP President, Shammah Kpanja, stated that the decision for polytechnic lecturers to resume their duties was prompted by a warning strike due to the government’s failure to implement nine items outlined in a work plan collaboratively developed with ASUP to address ongoing trade disputes.

“During the strike period, the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment organized a conciliation meeting between our Union and the government on December 9, 2024, aimed at resolving the dispute and preventing a potential indefinite strike,” Kpanja remarked.

“Following this meeting, the Union’s National Executive Council will convene to assess the situation.

“In light of these developments, all Union members are instructed to resume their duties on Monday, December 16, 2024.
