The person who filed the complaint asked that Yakubu be banned from holding or running for public office for 10 years.
Justice Maryam Hassan of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has thrown out the accusations that INEC Chairman Prof. Yakubu Mahmood made a false asset declaration.
The Department of State Security (DSS), the police, and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) were all prohibited by the court from looking into his legal asset declaration.
Somadina Uzoamaka filed a summons against the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Yakubu. One of the things he asked for was a mandatory injunction ordering and forcing the INEC chairman to resign until the various law enforcement agencies investigate and decide on the various allegations against him.
Also, the person who filed the complaint asked the judge to ban Yakubu from holding any public position for 10 years.
Prof. Yakubu fought back against the claim by giving the court a number of documents that showed where the money came from to buy the properties that the plaintiff said were bought illegally. He also argued that his asset declaration was done correctly.

Justice Hassan said that Prof. Yakubu’s declaration of assets was legal, valid, and in line with the law. He also said that none of the security services named by the claimant could look into Prof. Yakubu.
All 14 of the claimants’ requests to get rid of the INEC Chairman because of “made-up” claims of fake asset declarations were turned down by the court.
As a result, the judge rejected the claimant’s arguments and accepted the defendant’s counterclaim.
