Assassinated Hamas Leader Ismail Haniyeh’s Funeral in Iran
The assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh sparks a massive funeral in Iran, highlighting ongoing Middle East conflicts.
On Thursday, the funeral of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and his bodyguard was overseen by Iran’s supreme leader following their deaths in an assassination that is being attributed to Israel. This incident has the potential to escalate into a full-blown war within the region.
At Tehran University, President Masoud Pezeshkian stood beside Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as he offered prayers for Haniyeh’s coffin.
The coffins were presented on state television being transported by a truck along the street leading to Azadi Square in Tehran, where people showered them with flowers.
Following the funeral ceremony in Tehran, Haniyeh’s body is scheduled to be transported for interment on Friday in Qatar.
Pezeshkian’s inauguration was the reason Haniyeh traveled to Tehran.
A residence in Tehran, which Haniyeh uses, was hit by an airstrike that led to his death.
The Iranian authorities have not disclosed any details while claiming to investigate the attack.
Israel had made a commitment to eliminate Haniyeh and other leaders of Hamas following the group’s October 7th assault on southern Israel, which incited the conflict in Gaza.
Only hours after Israel attacked a major commander of Hezbollah, Iran’s ally located in Beirut, Lebanon, the strike occurred.
Hamas, as well as Hezbollah and other Palestinian resistance groups in Gaza receive support from Iran.
