In a heartfelt statement, Asari Dokubo pledged his support for Tinubu, revealing that he owes his life to the President, who helped him during a perilous time under Obasanjo’s regime.
Asari Dokubo, a former leader of militants in the Niger Delta, revealed on Tuesday that President Bola Tinubu protected him from the wrath of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Dokubo stated that Tinubu’s intervention rescued him when Obasanjo metaphorically buried him alive.
During his appearance on Arise TV’s Morning Show, he discussed his longstanding relationship with Tinubu, a connection that dates back to the military era.
Dokubo stated, “I supported Mr. President because I knew him before he became a senator and president, and God willing, I’ll still know him after his presidency ends. However, this isn’t about me or Tinubu; it’s about my people.”
When I’m discussing my people, put me aside; I am an individual. My relationship with Tinubu was always very strong and consistently one-sided in terms of benefits—I only received them from Tinubu.
“The announcement of his presidential candidacy was my sole opportunity to repay him, and I took it. If he announces again tomorrow, I’d do the same because back then, Obasanjo sidelined me completely, but he supported me through it all. It’s something I’ll remember for a long time.”
